I Have Decided I Officially Love the Nolan Brothers...
I've been waiting and waiting for The Prestige to come out, ever since I first saw the trailer back in July... actually, go back before that--ever since I first heard that the three main characters were played by Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, and Michael Caine. Now I read a review and discover that, just like last summer's Batman Begins, Christopher and Jonanthan Nolan have created a potentially gripping movie without junking up the plot with profanity and immorality.
Granted, I haven't yet seen the actual film. It only came out today, and, unfortunately, I have school so I can't go see it. *pouts* It would have been awesome to see it on opening day but, alas, I shall have to wait for a different day. Still, from the the trailer and reviews I have seen, it sounds like an interesting and thought-provoking film. I'll let you know what I think once I've seen it!
In the meantime, you should go watch the trailer. Just click on the title up there and it'll take you to apple. ^_^ Enjoy!
Be warned, however... The first time I saw the trailer I was totally weirded out, going: "Uhm, okay, that looks bizarre." *lol* It improves on you. It really does... just watch it a few times. *nod* Now I watch the trailer and go: "Oh my socks, I can't wait for that movie to come out!!"
And it has finally arrived!
On a side note, Flags of Our Fathers also looks like a very good film, although it's rated R. Still, check out the trailer for that one as well. It looks excellent.

Funny you should mention The Prestige. :)
A bunch of us are going to see it tomorrow, and we have been waiting for it as well. In fact...
I purchased the book last week and will be reading it soon. :)
FWIW, the film is getting MANY MANY stars. Critics love it thus far. We're excited about it. Nolan has done such an amazing job with Memento and Batman Begins. Looking forward to seeing what he does with Christopher Priest's novel.

Oh sweet!!! That's so exciting that you get to go see it tomorrow... I want to go see it so bad, but we're busy tomorrow so I'll probably have to wait until next week. *sigh* You'll have to tell me how it is!! Hope you have fun. ^_^
And as for stars... I was totally flaberghasted when I went to IMDb today and saw that it had 8.4 stars! That is almost unheard of! I can't remember the last time I saw a movie on IMDb that had more then 7.5 stars. lol. That seems like a good indication... *grin*
Oooh, and you'll have to say how the book is. I've heard that it's very interesting, but I decided I'd rather see the movie and be surprised by it then read the book and be surprised by the book, if that makes sense. lol. So yes... maybe after we've seen the movie I'll get the book out from the library and read it. ^_^
*wishes she could see The Prestige sooner* *le sigh*

The Prestige is a great movie. I will warn you, there is an element of sinister to it. It's not a happy-go-lucky feel good movie...but then again, neither was Memento.
As the trailer indicates, The Prestige is about obsession leading people to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do. This means some not-so-nice things. My wife was affected by the movie...she didn't like it so much. I, on the other hand, loved it, and hope to own it when it comes out on video. Daniel, Julie, and Gabe loved it too.

Oh good, I'm so glad you liked it!! ^_^ And yes, I know quite well that it is most certainly not going to be a "happy" movie. But sometimes it's the movies that aren't "happy" that are the best ones...
I look forward very much to seeing this... I just hope it stays at our theatre long enough! They're showing it on a pathetically small number of screens. However, since it's top box-office this weekend, perhaps they'll raise the number of showings.
Oh and guess what? It's already paid off more then a third of its production cost! How cool is that? *grin*

I definitely did like it and wouldn't mind seeing it again, though I think that might have to wait until it is released on DVD.
I was surprised to hear Kim give it the flattering review last night to you guys that she did. She must have reflected on my comments about the point of the movie and come to a different conclusion than she originally did.
Yes, the shocking nature of this movie is definitely what makes you think, and while I'm not for violence in movies for violence's sake, I think it accomplishes its goal in this movie. And no, I won't spoil it for you guys. :)

Indeed, there's some movies like that... You have to think about them for awhile before you decide whether or not you like them. I love movies like that--movies that make you think as you're walking out of the theatre and driving home. :)
Yes, sometimes violence is necessary in a movie to make the main point of the story come across.
Thanks for not spoiling it! *grin* Although, unfortunately, both my sister and I have seen at least one major spoiler through reviews (I've seen more then one). *glare* Why do people put spoilers in their reviews and post them on the internet? Gah! Honestly! heh...
Oh well, I'll just try to forget it before I see the movie. heh. Like that's going to happen... oh well. I still want to see it! :D

You know, I had some of the movie spoiled for me in reading some of the material surrounding the book and movie as well. Specifically, *CENSORED*, and it didn't ruin my experience of the movie.
I'm looking forward to the book, though, as it's written from a completely different perspective, though I'll not reveal how.
Also, I just reviewed Inkspell, and it should be safe for anyone who might not be finished with Inkspell, as well as people who might be reading the Wheel of Time. :)
