At World's End
Tonight we went and saw the third Pirates movie and... It was adventurous!
We had a wedding this afternoon, and we didn't leave the reception until about 5ish. After that, we drove over to the Hodson's house and hung out over there. Then we got involved in playing their Wii, and sort of . . . lost track of time. Next thing we knew, it was six thirty. And the showing we wanted to go to was at 7:15.
First, when we realized what time it was, we pretty much gave up on going. We were thinking it would be better to just hang out and stuff... but then my brother stated very decidedly that he wanted to go. And I seconded him.
Rush! We all piled into the Hodson's van, andRuth drove us down to the movie theatre. We jump out of the car and practically run over to the box office. Then we look down the sidewalk and see a rather sizable line that has formed outside the theatre . . . for Pirates.
Worry! While Ruth bought our tickets, the guys went over and started keeping a place in line. By the time we girls got over there with them, we only had to wait about a minute before they let us go inside. We hurried in to the stadium, hoping that we could get seats together . . . and proceeded to get what were possibly the best seats in the house.
Six seats, all together, in the very middle of the stadium, in the back row. And the seats even tipped back, even though they were in the back! It was awesome. I was so thrilled. We had perfect timing! =D It was like we planned it!
So, we sit back and get ready to enjoy ourselves. We laugh at the self-proclaimed "stunning special effects" in Ghost Rider. We tell stories about friend's friends meeting Nick Cage. We sarcastically applaud bad commercials. Basically, we have fun. Then the movie starts, and we sit back for some great swashbuckling Pirate adventures! And, for about an hour, everything goes great!
And then the power goes off.
Climactic scene! Biting-of-the-nails! Much intent on the screen--and flick! The screen goes dark, and the emergency lights turn on. "The end!" someone exclaims. "Four years until the next installment!" someone chimes in.
Then the emergency lights turn off, and only the exit lights are lit. A somewhat confused murmur goes around the theatre. Did the power go off, or what? Sure enough, a worker comes in a second later and explains that a transformer blew right next to the theatre, so they're temporarily without power. But the movie should be back on in just a minute.
Just as promised, a few seconds later, the lights turn off, and the movie starts up again! We missed a couple minutes of it, but it wasn't anything crucial (I guess), so that was fine. And the rest went without a single glitch, so that was good.
As for the movie . . . It was infinitely better then the second one, although that wouldn't take much. I had heard some bad reviews of it, so I wasn't going in expecting too much. But still, I was expecting lots of cool Pirates and everything related to Pirates. And I wasn't disappointed! As I said, it was better then the second.
There were a lot of different plotlines worked in, but I think that the movie was long enough to make those plot threads all weave together really well. I mean, the movie is almost three hours long! That's plenty long for multiple plotlines! ^_^ I really thought they did a good job.
The ending . . . I'm not too sure I liked the ending. I think out of our group, I liked it the most. But it was still . . . I don't know. It was kind of irritating. And frustrating. And sad.
But I don't want to spoil anything, soo... I'll shut up before I give something away. =P Just suffice it to say, that it was waaaaaay way better then number II, and it's somewhere close to number I. Great movie. I really loved it. I'd go see it again in the theatre, even though tickets are outrageously expensive. It's worth it.
Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!

*says nothing*
first impressions it was a crappy way to end it. They tried too much to make it Matrix-like I thought. (the fact that Matrix was deep and thought provoking and good twists) Not to mention I had a pretty good and accurate idea of what the end would be. I'd need to see it again to be sure, but my first impression of it was it wasn't as good as Spiderman 3.

I loved it infinately moreso than I liked Spiderman 3. I'm still ticked it didn't beat it out at the box office records. *Grumble*
But Will gets to go free and they all live happily ever after. Research, gotta love it.

Eeeeeh... I have to disagree with that, Ian. Even though I loved Pirates III, I thought Spidey was better. *nod*
They were both good conclusions to trilogies, but I think Spiderman was just better as a movie. *nods again, wisely*
And Shawn, you need to see PotC again so you can realize that it was a good movie. =P
